Up to 250 Firefighters battled an overnight fire in Wanaque, where flames and wind created a horrible combination of disaster and mayhem for 6 families that no longer have homes. The roads usually slow with traffic were today extra slow due to diverted vehicles around the blaze stricken buildings. The 2 businesses affected were the dollar store and the antique store next door which is a few month old business. Oddly enough and almost poetically so, the bar "The Phoenix Club" seemed unaffected, not needing to rise from the ashes, although this past week while driving past, everything looked very quiet on the business front. Roughly six families have been dealt a terrible hand, losing virtually everything that they own. No serious injuries were reported. Three people were treated for smoke inhalation, and one firefighter suffered minor injuries.
